A beautiful, back to basics holiday at a Feather Down Farm.

We arrived at the farm in a very clean car, full of everything we needed for a weekend, (everything, but the kitchen sink) 3 children & a dog in tow!

It soon became apparent, we would have to push our belongings in wheelbarrows across the muddy field, as access was restricted to 'on foot only' which we totally embraced.

On arriving at the tent, I loved it. The children so excited that we didn't have to spend time setting up, and Mummy very pleased we could explore and settle in immediately. Bearing in mind it was an October weekend away, the first thing we did was light the log burner.

The safari tents are amazing, rustic and spacious. A large dining table, comfy beds and our favourite, the vintage coffee grinder on the wall.

The evenings are great for "checking out" of the busy world around us, no electricity, no gas, and only the log burner for heating/cooking. We lit the candles, played games while dinner cooked very slowly on top of the log burner. Luckily we packed snacks & pot noodles for the kids! I would definitely pack a gas camping stove for our next trip. However I think planning ahead, you could definitely cook something delicious on it.

A wood fire hot tub is such a unique experience, not too dissimilar to cooking yourself in a witches cauldron. Great for adults who love a boiling hot bath, but I'd definitely keep topping up with cold water if you don't enjoy that! Sat outside surrounded by nature, with only the cows for neighbours, it's the best spa experience.

Our children, at the time 2, 6 & 7 years old. The favourite bit for them was definitely the outdoor hammock & the secret cupboard bed!

Tips from us:

●Pack lots of food that wont need cooking or keeping cold (no fridge) or take a camping stove for boiling pasta, pot noodles etc.

●You'll want to pack light, but take warm clothing, access via field on foot.

●Activities, colouring, board games and outdoor games essential. A good book & wine for the adults!

Enjoy. Its the best way to relax away from phones, TV and work.
